Mail Order
Yesterday at work I saw a real live mail order bride from Russia. Seriously, it was so obvious. I asked the man where his wife was from and he said Russia. I knew that already before he said it. He kept making her try on clothes and seemed very controlling (at one point I thought he was about to get on in the dressing room with her...scary). You could just tell that the two of them would have never gotten together in the US. I am sorry. I feel really fortunate to live in the United States. I can't imagine the desperate lengths that some will go through to get to the land of the free, we really take it for granted. Anyway, I wanted to slip a little note in her shopping bag that she could run away (to my house) to get away from that kind of weird control...but I didn't. I just felt sorry for the girl...you would have had to have been there. I have worked at the mall for ten years and you would not believe the things I have seen and heard. I am going to write a Seinfeld type of show about some of my adventures one day!
wow...
ReplyDeletewow.
but the life there is so hard for some....
and some of my korean friends here at seminary say that they still have arranged marriages there - and i can now see that there's some advantage to this custom!
i never thought i'd think that way!
LOL
Hey Jenny, My husband has a salesman at his office that he thinks has a russian mail order bride. Just something insight about Russia, my brother is a pastor and goes there once a year to teach at a seminary. The students are 20-30 something and learn thru translators for all their classes. These kids have nothing, I mean nothing. They are so hungry, serious bible students in a country that is a wreck. They are so inspiring to me.
ReplyDeleteThere used to be a mail order Vietnamese bride across the street. It always baffled me. She would smile and nod, but never spoke any english. Very interesting.
ReplyDeleteWhy do I feel that if you wrote a sitcom it would be the most popular and most watched hilarious one on TV!!!
ReplyDeleteHey girlfriend, I could work with you on writing a sitcom. I worked in retail for 7 years of my life. And do I have some stories!!
ReplyDeleteChanging the subject and back to your post, I feel so sorry for this poor woman. I would have wanted to do the same thing for her, but of course, it would have done no good.
What a blessing we have to live here in the United States. I think we forget that, especially as women. In many other countries we be treated like property.
