Make a joyful noise?

So tonight I am in the closet singing "Come Thou Fount" (Here it is if you don't know the words):

Come Thou fount of every blessing
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace
Streams of mercy never ceasing
Call for songs of loudest praise
Teach me some melodious sonnet
Sung by flaming tongues above
I'll praise the mount I'm fixed upon it
Mount of Thy redeeming love

Here I raise my Ebenezer
Hither by Thy help I come
And I hope by Thy good pleasure
Safely to arrive at home
Jesus sought me when a stranger
Wondering from the fold of God
He, to rescue me from danger
Interposed His precious blood
O to grace how great a debtor
daily I'm constrained to be!
Let Thy goodness like a fetter,
bind my wandering heart to Thee

Prone to wander Lord I feel it,
prone to leave the God I love
Here's my heart Lord,
take and seal it, seal it for Thy courts above

I get to the first stanza and let me tell you I am an awful singer. Awful. It blesses no one but the Lord for me to sing. My twin sister got every bit of the musical/artistic gene. She can sing and draw and etc like nobodies business. Me. nothing.

So, I close my eyes in a moment of worship and all of the sudden I get whacked on my glasses with a pencil. Morgan said, "Mom, I do not like that song!!!" TRANSLATION: I DO NOT LIKE YOU SINGING IT!

Totally rude. I was so caught off guard as I did not care that she was listening. It was not a concert for her. I died laughing because I was so rudely interrupted by my 4 year old. I mean she shut it down. I fell out on the floor laughing so hard. Picture me in a moment of serious praise and then getting thumped in the face and told to stop. I mean can you blame her?
Anyway, I needed the laugh. Of course that only encouraged her more but I was caught up in the sheer hilarity of it.

Psalm 126:2 (New International Version)
2 Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, "The LORD has done great things for them."

That is too cute. I'm sure Morgan was jealous that she wasn't singing. Your sister may have gotten singing talent -but can she compose words like you?

Cute story, Jenny. And yes, some have less than tuneful voices--at least, for now. But keep singing! "The Lord looks at the heart" (I Sam. 16:7). And that's where our praise is to start (Col. 3:16).

Years ago, we had an associate pastor whose singing voice was a bit like the noise made by a rusty brake lining (his own words). Whenever he led the service, the sound man would dutifully turn down the mike during the hymns. But one day there was a new sound many, who didn't know the drill. Some folks could hardly sing for laughing. Well, we all had a good time, even if it was at his expense!

You chose a wonderful hymn to sing. And today, as I write, is the 274th anniversary of the birth of the author, Robert Robinson. Do keep singing. And God bless.
