A Woman, Her God, and Her Hair

This shot above is after the "special" shampoo you will have to read to find out. I mean is this suspense or what?

Alright, for some of you this post may not be serious enough for you. Laughter is good medicine for me so humor me if you will. No one loves a good laugh like me. If you know me well you know I love pranks and practical jokes. I can get serious though in a flat second. I am SERIOUS about this post...look at the lengths I have gone to already to get this picture. What you see above my friends is some serious attempts at haircare. A lot of these products promised me far more than they delivered. I have been attempting to have smooth, conditioned, shiny, straight hair...but to no avail. I will back this up with scripture for those of you who think I can't here goes! The Lord cares about my hair! Check out these verses:

Hair to a woman can seriously be her crown of splendor! I am starting to really get some gray hair and yes I will have it colored and take advantage of what God in His grace allowed to be made. Besides, if people see all of the gray they might be intimidated at the righteousness that has earned them for me. JUST KIDDING. But that is what I will say to Rod when he foots the bill for the salon. As a brunette I will not be doing the home job on my hair color. Since the Lord provides for our needs (and this will fall under the need category in my book) I will trust in Him to provide.

Proverbs 16:31
31 Gray hair is a crown of splendor;
it is attained by a righteous life.

Have you ever tried counting your hairs? I have and I had to give up! I have some thick hair but it gives me great comfort to know that Jesus knows the very number of hairs on my head and everyone that ever was...talk about intimately acquainted! He is in to the details!
Luke 12:7
7Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

Song of Solomon 7:5
5 Your head crowns you like Mount Carmel.
Your hair is like royal tapestry;
the king is held captive by its tresses.

I feel this way sometimes:
Psalm 40:12
12 For troubles without number surround me;
my sins have overtaken me, and I cannot see.
They are more than the hairs of my head,
and my heart fails within me.

Look at this. I am not going to let my hair become unkempt..for to me that would be sin people...plain sin!
Leviticus 10:6 Then Moses said to Aaron and his sons Eleazar and Ithamar, "Do not let your hair become unkempt, [a] and do not tear your clothes, or you will die and the LORD will be angry with the whole community. But your relatives, all the house of Israel, may mourn for those the LORD has destroyed by fire.

One more hair verse I promise:

1 Corinthians 11:14-16

14Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him, 15but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering. 16If anyone wants to be contentious about this, we have no other practice—nor do the churches of God.

Just a little disclaimer here: I know it looks like I could stock the shelves at WalMart here but these were bought over time and with coupons (mostly). I do have a point here. The other day I went to the Beauty supply store to get my flat iron spray. I have what I call resurrection hair days (before Jesus performs a miracle on my hair and after He resurrects it from the dead...it really is a miracle). You see...if I do not use the flat spray and flat iron you would be scared because yes I do indeed look like a bad chia pet without it. Ever since I had Shelby and Morgan my hormones have been drastically altered (thanks Eve) and my hair is extremely dry. I spoke with my sister about it and she says I need to pour olive oil in it. I am not ready for the anointing of that oil just yet. I want to try a few other products before I get that drastic. So anyway, I went and made a purchase of shampoo and condition for "women of color". I asked the lady at the checkout (in a whisper) "is this for white people?" She told me I could get it (deep down I think she just needed to make a purchase). So I bought them and came home for the trial! It seemed ok the first try, then the second...but after that it starting doing crazy stuff to my do. I love to read. I will read shampoo bottles, cereal boxes, anything but instructions, and I especially love to read the word. Have you ever read some of the advertisements on shampoo bottles? They offer so much and deliver so little. Some promise to even take me to paradise. They offer to quench my thirsty hair. It is quite hilarious! And yet that is so like this world system and sin...it offers a lot, lures you in and deceives you. You are left cheated like Judas Iscariot making his money, betraying Jesus and then hanging himself in a field. We wrap chains around us so subtly by buying into it. It was my prayer this afternoon that I wouldn't buy into it. Please help us Lord. Until then I can't wait for my glorified body and some perfect hair!

Jenny,
That post was so funny!! I loved all the hair products (I have been there). My hair is curly so I have to use a straightening iron as well. I also got a kick out of the scriptures referencing hair. I loved it!! I will need to quote those the next time my husband says something about how much the stylist charges - hehe!!
I am thinking of you with the study meeting on Tuesday. I know God is going to show up and be big!!
Much love,
Kim

I, too, have naturally kinky hair. I fight it every day. Most of them time, the hair wins. I have found a shampoo and conditioner that I LOVE! It is Tigi Catwalk oatmeal and honey. I usually get the 1 liter bottle at the salon in wal-mart. They had it buy 1 get 1 free last week, which I love! Here is a link to tell you all about it...
